Anyone feel like giving me an ROAK?
I've been trying to set up bloglines for... well, I think in order to salvage the last bits of respect you may have for me it's best if we just don't discuss how long this has been going on.
I just feel like people are describing it as being much easier than it really is.
Or maybe I'm a lot dumber than most other people, and my thought that I was above average intelligence was just a pipe dream. The ole grey matter isn't mattering so much, if you get the drift.
Everyone keeps saying things like "you just sign up, and then to add sites, you just click on the button and it's there! It's great!"
"Gooooooo Bloglines!"
Yeah, um, no.
I go there. I sign up. And I have to type in War and Peace in order to add someone to my list.
Okay, it's not quite that bad. But I do have to jump through some hoops and even the so called "easy subscribing bookmarklet" doesn't seem to want to work. (Drag it to my browsers bar and then what? Nothing happens when I drag it! No easy button to click that will make life so much easier!)

i used bloglines for a bit, but i am on a mac and found some handy freeware application that is easier for me. because it will let me know, without going to a webpage, when there are updates. Anyway, i just added a feed to bloglines in the following way:
1. added the bloglines"easy subscribe bookmarklet" to me menu bar
2. went to a blog i wanted to add
3. clicked on the bloglines bookmarklet in my menu bar
4. checked the "subscribe to this feed" box (a lot of blogs have more than one thing that could be interpreted as an RSS feed, although some do not have a feed at all - like my sister's blog! bbleagh!)
5. clicked the "subscribe" button
did that help at all?
Hmm... well, no. Because it's actually step #1 I'm having all the trouble with - I can't seem to get the Easy Subscribe Bookmarklet to get into my bar....
crap. what browser are you using?
I haven't been able to figure out the Easy Subscribe Bookmarklet either, but what I did was click on the My Feeds Tab, choose Add and then type the URL of the blog in that first field.
Hope that helps!
That's what I was doing, but trying to add all the ROAK ring, and KR ring, and Spinning Wheel... we're talking 200 addresses that can be screwed up with typos...
Ick.
I use the add feature on my bloglines page as well. I don't type in the addresses though, I cut and paste. It takes a while but I really like having the bloglines notifier to tell me when something has been updated.
If you would like to discuss it some more you can always message me on yahoo, I'm alyxamay. Or you can email me at alyxavia@cox.net.

I have a similar problem with ya hoo groups. If J hadn't forced me in I'd still be out of that loop too.

If you are using IE, the only place it seems to let you drag the bookmarklet to is the Links area. What you may want to do is download Mozilla Firefox. You can drag it onto the toolbar a lot easier, go to each of your blogs and click the button to subscribe. Once you've got all of the ones you want subscribed to, you can uninstall Firefox if you don't like it. One thing about Firefox is that some blogs will display weird because of the way the page is coded, but once you've got your subs set up, you can use IE to browse again. Firefox also comes with a built in spam blocker so you might wonder where all that Tagboard spam disappeared to if you aren't already using a blocker.

also, firefox does tabbed browsing, which i love, personally. it is my browser of choice now on a PC. IE 6 started sucking in my opinion.
