I could bitch and moan. Believe me, I've done plenty in the past week. Just take a look at the top of the side bar and see if you can guess how I feel about things. You can't. I'm far more upset than words can express. I feel the need to apologize to my friends that have been made second class citizens by 51% of those who voted last week. But I'm so tired, so exausted from all of this, I'm going to focus on the lovely retreat, and talk about that instead. That'll go on all week. I just don't have the heart to talk about what I think about my country this week. And since this is a knitting blog, and it was a knitting retreat, it works out for everyone better this way, yes? So. Disgusted, ashamed, and enough said.

The retreat.

Imagine waking up to this each morning.

then spending your days with the loveliest people you can imagine.

You play with fiber all day. If you have a question or need help, you're never farther than 10 feet from someone who can help, and they do so with a smile. Not once does anyone say "really, knitting? Aren't you too young for that?" "Oh, are you pregnant - that looks like a nesting urge" or "Yarn? Seriously?"

It's not West Virginia, but it's almost heaven.

I picked up Shelia from the airport and we headed down the road to Graves. And managed to hit Baltimore's rush hour, D.C.' rush hour, and bad rain as well. We got there just after dinner had been cleaned up, but they kindly let us sneak into the kitchen and fill up plates, which we took down to the other women in the dye workshop who were spinning and knitting by the fire. Hugs abounded. It was like coming home.

The next morning, the lovely and talented Jen led a workshop on dye techniques.

This is what "the class" made:

Mine is the yellow and blue one, and is destined for a pair of socks, I think. I'm as suprised as anyone that I didn't dye it green. My other standby is red - none of that in there either. The mountain air must have caused some dimentia.

I keep telling myself the next 4 years can't possibly as bad as they look. repeat it over and over. I'm starting to believe it. As long I still get to knit and spin, I'll survive.

The pictures look great and it sounds like you guys had such a fabulous time.

I've missed your posts. I had a feeling you were just too disgusted to say much.

Pictures are lovely! I'm so glad you all had fun!

Great photos, Amie! It was nice to meet you. I'm sorry I didn't get a chance to spend more time getting to know you.

Love your sidebar too! No offense anyone, but I have to add, I really feel it is a bit hypocritical for the President to ask for unity when he devised his campaign and the elections itself(especially the gay marriage ballot issue)to put a wedge between Americans...obviously it worked. More hypocritial...asking for unity while in the same breath saying that his 51% "mandate" earned him the capital, and he's going to spend it. I'm sorry I've never been fond of the "my way or the highway" type of unity and leadership skills.
