First, responses to yesterdays comments:
Larry, you're lucky you've met me to tip the scales, because I'm WAY cuter than I think I am. Oh. Wait.

Susan, I never turn down a man who wants to win my love with needles and yarn.

Liz, it was kinda like the Twilight Zone, with yarn. And yarn makes everything better, so it wasn't that bad.

Deb, you're right, no more free advice, but golly was he tough to resist.

Linda, I agree.

Marfa, darling, so many people have stories about me, it's a little scary.

Vi, thanks, dear!

Elayne, I refuse to blame my spinning (because I am perfect) or Jen's yummy fiber (because she is perfect) and so it must be the Rit. The Rit was wrong.

Carolyn, I'm not even sure he was a math teacher, despite the "teaching trig" comment - he later made a comment claiming that he was Dilbert (I know, ladies, but I saw him first) and aside from the fact that he weighs about as much as the paper Dilbert is printed on, I saw no reason to disbelieve him.

Elisa, I wasn't sure which would do the trick, so I figured throwing in "husband," "gun," and "government" all together could only help my cause. And I couldn't find my nice tarot deck, and ended up using a beginners deck I have that has the "translations" printed right on the card, but the translations were reading like bad spy movie code - "the wet dog flies at night" and "gerbils never mutter in swahili" and I just pretended it all made perfect sense for your reading.

I started teaching socks last night at my guild meeting. We were working them on two circulars, and I was blown away by the number of people there who'd never used circulars at all, and found them to be a mind-boggling contraption (note to self: read knitting books by people who aren't Elizabeth Zimmerman). It took a good hour before the concept of making a tube on two circs was really grasped by everyone, but most of them were thoroughly impressed with it, which was fun to see. It was a tough lesson, because the room we meet is is very echo-ey and there were I think sixteen people there, chatting about various things. I was pooped by the end, but it was great fun. We started on the heel flap, and I started to sense information overload in some of them, so we decided to end it there. We'll pick up next month.

One of the women, who's about nine thousand years old (okay, maybe just her 80s, but it's cute that she's so much older than me) came up towards the end with some tiny circular needles that I saw Boogie mention a few weeks ago, the kind with a knitting needle point on one end, and a crochet hook on the other end. And I could see Boogie's blog, where she said "these are fantastic for...." and then it goes blurry. I said to the woman "I will talk to my friend and find out and you come back next month and I'll have an answer for you" and she said (here's where her being a million years older than me gets really cute) "well, I just knew if anyone knew it would be you." I didn't have the heart to tell her that I'm really just a big dork with some phenomenol friends. We'll just let her go on thinking I'm brilliant - keep my secret, okay?

In the meantime, I'm off to ask Boogie what those things were for again...

Well, I'm not Boogie, and maybe she has something different, but I have one of the circulars with a hook on one end and a knitting needle on the other. It's made by Skacel, and is intended to be used to pick up stitches with the hook, and knit them off with the other end. I've only used mine once or twice, for a neckline and front band where there was a lot to pick up, but some people use them for all picking-up jobs. Maybe there are other uses too?

second, I was not able to put a big comment on the other day.....(for which we all are eternally grateful and I am long winded)
because Mr. Peabody and his curly self was sitting on my chest..... as you know, he is a VERY big cat, and while I am fat, I am not all that tall..... so BIG cat and short woman, that makes it hard to reach the keys.
