Thank you, sir, may I have another?

What a weekend.
Roller Coaster

Friday night, GB and I had a great dinner out together. On the way there, I asked if we had a Playstation because I wanted this game Sarah had mentioned. Here's how the conversation went:

Princess Do we have a Playstation?

Prince I'll buy you a Playstation II

Princess You don't have to, I thought we had a Playstation?

Prince Yes, but you really want a Playstation II.

Princess Um. Thanks, honey.
[looks somewhat dazed to find herself standing in Target half an hour later with a Playstation II in her hands]

The next morning I hopped in the car and schlepped to Philly. It was truly a schlep, as the entire state of Maryland seemed to be in a panic over the terrifying liquid falling from the sky. But I got there to BIG hugs and a lovely afternoon of spinning and knitting. I added another two inches to this:

which I hope will be done in time for a certain birthday this week.

I also finished my first Strong Heel, which I do believe I officially love.

(pardon the bagginess, I'm hoping it will fit GB, who has larger feet than I)

My beautiful hostess, ever the over-acheiver, finished this

which had this effect on the incomparable Sue (more on her incomparability later).

The three of us had a yummy dinner cooked by my lovely hostess, then rushed through the rain to the Orchestra. These terrific ladies arranged for a world premiere of an English Horn piece, just for me! Not to mention selections from Sheherazade, which is one of my favorites. And the concert hall is just breathtakingly beautiful - in the shape of a cello, and done in rich colors and equisite styling.

After a stop for gelato (I had a small scoop each of Limoncello, Champagne Mango and Kiwi - have I said "yum" yet today? I think I should. YUM.) we went back and spun and knit some more, until WAY past my bedtime. Off to bed for us all.... and then...

Dum Dum DUUUMMMMMM

I woke up when a teeny special someone meowed for breakfast and the mommy-instincts in me kicked in. My adorable hostess was starting brunch preparations for Martha to come visit us, so I wandered into the kitchen looking very much like an auburn mop (falling asleep with rain-wet hair does this to some people) and sat to join her. After a while, my stomach started getting that low-blood sugar burble-y nausea thing. This is VERY uncommon for me, but can usually be remedied with some crackers, so I nibbled while she cooked a scrumptious quiche, mouth-watering sweet roll, and prepared a fruit and cheese plate. No slouch on the hostess front is this girl.

Before long, Martha was there, a special treat to see, and we chattered and ate and spun some more (Martha had brought her wheel as well). And I sat Martha down at my Fiona, and was giving her little tidbits here and there (like most beginners, Martha thinks she's doing horribly, and is actually doing fine and taking tiny bits of info and really running with them). Martha asked some very good question, and I suddenly said "um. Excuse me." and RAN to the bathroom.

And didn't really make it.
I never believed in projectile vomiting until yesterday morning.

We'll just leave it at that, shall we?

I cleaned up the best I could, wandered back into the living room to see a very shocked bunch of women, and concentrated on stopping the room from spinning. I gave a few more tips, and gradually noticed that Sue wasn't in the room with us. She'd been in and out, so I didn't think much of it.

But after about another hour, the burble returned. Apparently my body felt the medical scares in the past month weren't getting me enough attention, and it was going on strike until that was resolved. It was then that I discovered where Sue was.

Cleaning up the rest of my mess in the bathroom - mopping, polishing, scrubbing....

At least when I ran in this time, I managed to have some aim, and didn't destroy all the so-far-above-and-beyond-the-call-of-duty-it-boggles-the-mind work she did. These ladies worked wonders for me yesterday

(Sue is the one on the left, but Lehnan was an excellent hostess as well, curling up on my lap and giving me healing purrs...)

I did manage the two hour drive home without any incidents, and it was confirmed that I was a missed mommy when I opened the door, and Trevor, who normally at least feigns feline dignity, yelled "MMMMMOOOOOOOOMMMMMMM" and ran to greet me, and Aslan spent the night curled around my arm like a koala on a tree.

This morning, I'm taking no chances with my stomach. Low-carb schmo-carb. I'm having mashed potatoes and mac-and-cheese for lunch. They aren't called "comfort foods" for nothing.

Sickly

I'm not on a low-carb diet, so to speak, though I do try to have balence to what I eat, despite the fact that I could quite happily live for the rest of my life on nothing but fettucine alfredo. Today is NOT about balence, though. It is about getting through the rest of this blurry work day and falling asleep in my husband's arms on the couch tonight. I'll even let him watch SciFi (if he keeps the volume down)

Mmm ... what exactly is "the terrifying liquid falling from the sky" that caused panic in Maryland? Is it just rain?
Take care and hope you'll feel better soon.

Oh Amie - so sorry you aren't feeling well. I tried a no-carb diet a few years ago and thought I was going to die. My doc basically told me I have to have carbs and to not even try low-carb. She just wanted me to do carbs in moderation. Hope you're feeling better - especially in time for this weekend (MS&W). I hope we can connect there - would love to meet you!

Amie, make sure your doctor knows about this. It may be entirely unrelated, but he/she should be the one to determine that...
