Three Days Before the Festival
I'm am mentally exhausted. I'm not sure I could spell my full name if asked right now. Fortunately, Trevor, Aslan, and Oscar, aren't asking. Good boys.
Class was FANTABULISTICOSITY embodied. So, good. I was the newest and youngest spinner there, and learned enough to be worth the price of admission before lunch. And it just kept getting better. But since I'm not so good with the words right now, some quick pictures, and a tease that at the very bottom there will be some super duper news.
This is the woman next to me, spinning on her Journey wheel.
She spun BEAUTIFULLY - Judith even sent one of her samples around, it was so lovely. Perfectly even and strong.
Here's Judith herself, between two other students.
She's an excellent teacher, and I really liked her. I'm so glad to have this experience with her.
This is a picture of her Lazy Kate.
How cool is that? A plastic basket (which, by the way, also carries things) and plastic bobbins held there by old knitting needles. And she can get a gazillion bobbins on there, depending on how many plies she wants. Brilliant, I tell ya.
I got a moment to ask her about wheels, since as you know I have my Norm Hall wheel savings account. I was thinking she might tell me some wheel that I'm unfamiliar with that is readily available, so we chatted a little about which wheels she likes best (she says if you can only have one wheel, it should be a Lendrum, for it's extreme versitility)... she thought for a moment, then said "well, I have to say I think my absolute dream wheel is... have you heard of Norman Hall?"
Dare I say 'Great minds think alike'?
And since I teased you with some good news, how 'bout this:
That's right! Our very beloved Jen and her amazing business Spirit Trail got a call that there was a last minute cancellation, and she has a space in the main hall! If you haven't seen her stuff, you'll be blown away. If you haven't felt her stuff, you'll pass out. If you haven't bought her stuff.... You will.

What a great idea with the shopping basket! Just in time too, I am about to ply some yarn!
I forgot to tell you when I saw you late yesterday that I got some information regarding your gazebo lace scarf from several people who know far more about knitting than most of us....you couldn't do what you tried to do because it cannot be done, not because you couldn't figure it out! Even with the chart (which is in Embellishments) you cannot turn it upside down. Only way it to knit two and graft in the middle. Thought that might make you feel better. Glad you had such a good time with Judith..I am so looking forward to SOAR and her classes there!
Thank you for posting her lazy kate set up!!!! How many of us spent WAY too much money on a lazy kate that holds ONLY 3 bobbins (not that I spin fine enough for more than 3) and that is all they do! I love the versitility of the basket. I never spin on the road. But if I did, I wouldn't want to take a tool that did ONLY 1 thing!

Another big thanks for posting a pic of the basket lazy kate. I just bought two similar but smaller baskets from the hardware store. Definitely sturdier than the shoe box method and it requires no woodworking skills.
