Fluff-n-Stuff

It was really just barely a productive weekend for me, although I should get tons of bonus points for actually cooking. Marinara sauce - from scratch, cutting the roma tomatoes and all. I don't generally cook. I like to cook - for myself. I do not like to try to figure out how things taste to other people. So it is VERY rare that I actually do cook. Even this was a disappointment - I would have liked to let the sauce go for a few more hours, but we do what we can. I had to cook because right now I can't really have anything pre-made, unless it's not canned or salted. It's not the salt that's a problem, it's the iodine, but if the ingredients say "salt" I can't know if they used iodized salt or not. So it's been an adventure in the kitchen this weekend! My mom made a beef with horseradish gravy Saturday night, and I found some spaghetti that specified being made with egg whites (yolks have iodine) and no salt, so I had that (with my sauce) last night. I didn't want to eat meat, but I really just have no choice to get all the nutrients I need right now - I can't risk my health, even as guilty as I feel.

But Friday I made these

Yup. I actually crocheted! I won't be making another of these soon - they weren't difficult, just a pain in the butt, but I think they're cute, and I've been wearing them all weekend as my "dressy" flip-flops, compared to the ratty ones that get worn to play with the dog in the yard.

I also spun some of this, purchased from Stony Mountain Fibers at MD S&W

I love the smear of pink and blue and lavendar. Not my normal colors, more like a nursery exploded, but so pretty!

I'm spinning it woolen, and trying to get that technique to be more comfortable for me, so I'm not overly worried about the thick and thin spots. It's going to become a felted toy, I think, so that's not a concern.

And the reason GB had my camera last week was this, a parents vs. kids soccer game to celebrate the end of the season. My guys are here in blue - #14 on the left and dark navy on the right.

And here is my gorgeous husband starting to remember that he is not actually a kid anymore.

Also, I'm adding a new link to my sidebar, and wanted to bring it to your attention as well. It's Knitting For a Change and I think is a great way we can all use our talents and passions to affect positive change in the world. Check it out.

SP,

The marinara was really good and I can get used to the egg-white noodles. Not bad, just different. I really should get out into the sun a bit more... My legs are sooo pale. Keep up the good work!

Hey honey.
Thanks for the link for the "change" site & for the correction for it. I have tried to inspire my knitting group to do items for charities. So far I have had a few nibbles - perhaps this site might do the trick.
To Amie's DH, I doubt that any of us who saw that photo tho't about the paleness of your legs - we saw you in the terms of your wife: does the words "hubba hubba" strike a chord w/you, Amie?!
XOXO
