So the Knit-Blog Police don't shut me down
I have a picture of a half-finished object.
Well, it's a fully finished object, but it's only half because it's one of two needed:
It's the finished sock from the ball of yarn I found in the kitchen the other day. I can't for the life of me get a good picture of the colors, but it's "guy colors" - greens and browns and a smidge of purple and a tiny touch of white.
Now begins the panic. GB likes his sock legs long, and I have an eternal and deep-seated fear of running out of yarn (this might explain my stash). This is the main reason I do socks toe-up (although there are many other benefits). But I wanted to learn the Strong Heel, so I did this sock leg-down, and now I have to spend the entire next sock praying that I have enough yarn left over to finish it, or he's getting a bright pink toe or something to punish him for wanting an 11 inch leg.
There. See? I do knit. Some.
Loopy asked how the boys were getting up to their lair-on-high, so I took the best wide shot I could without actually showing you how ugly my house is:
You can see each of the steps in the journey here - first to the top of the computer, than the top of the bookshelf, then the leap to the top of the dish cabinet.
Getting down is much easier. You can follow the reverse path, if you're dignified, like Aslan. Or you can make a thunderous boom and leap from there to the counter, then to the floor, if you're Trevor. This sometimes means things get knocked off the counter and broken, but if you're Trevor, you don't have to clean up, so who cares?
I did notice something amusing about a snack the other day (yes, snacks can be quite amusing. I don't need to get out more. Yes, my totem is a hermit crab. Why do you ask?)
I was munching away on some dried apricots, which I quite like, and noticed the date on the back. You know, the date that warns you when the item will suddenly go bad.
Catch that?
It would seem that I can enjoy this to its full potential right up to 7:52 on the Fourth of June, 2006. At 7:53 it will no longer be "best".... which bothers me, because I don't know if they mean 7:53 AM or PM!!!!
How does one synchronize one's watch to match the factory that packaged these particular dried apricots?

did you name your cat aslan after the book thelion the witch and the wardwrobe?
they look like they love to climb up high!
lol about those apricots! i guess you'll just have to wait to 7:53 am to see if it's really for pm. LOL
I'd err on the side of assuming that's AM -- if they don't indicate am/pm, then my guess would be that they are on military time and pm would be 19:53.
My cats used to do those climbing things, but they stopped and I have no idea why (not that I miss it). I do have a toddler who gets places pretty much the same way, though he hasn't figured out how to get from the table to the top of the cabinets yet. The least they could do while they're up there is dust, don't you think?
I would agree that it is am. The 0 before the 7 makes me think it is military time. However, that does not solve the problem entirely. Now, you need to find out where it is made so you know the correct time zone. Or, did they put the time on knowing it would be sold in your time zone? You really can't know, can you? So, I'd finish it by the day before instead of waiting until the last minute. Or, keep it and watch for when it suddenly gets yucky and see if their timing was correct.
Yeah, I'd want to watch those apricots and see if they liquify at 07:53. Stick them in the back of a cabinet, though, where you will find them again at something like 13:27 on 04/19/2010!
And you were kidding about my booth, right?
I'd go with military time too. And you'd best find out which time zone that company is in! There is absolutely no need to foolishly risk your life. ;)
Those time stamps kill me too. But some people are so stickler about throwing stuff out on the exact date (or a week before!) that I'm sure there are some who wouldn't go past a specified hour either. Me, if it smells okay, looks okay, and isn't waaay past it's expiry date I'm usually good to go. (Ewwww!)
I'm glad to see the humor has come back stronger than ever.
My kitties used to climb on top of the cabinets too. The way I stopped that was to move. Now their new thing is leaping into the windows that are just above the radiators. I never knew that a window sill could be so comfortable jabbing one in the belly, but I guess with lots of kitty fat anything is comfy. :)
And those apricots, I second/third/fourth the military time theory. I just think it's so funny that they put the time on there. Maybe it's the time they were actually packaged??
