The first thing my Christmas bonus gave to me was a letter expressing their thanks...

The second thing my Christmas bonus gave to me was a sweater's worth of Cascade

and a letter expressing their thanks...

~~~~~
Can I make a comment? I saw The Terminal this weekend. Very cute movie, I though Tom Hanks was excellent... but it got me thinking.
Was there anything good about the Catherine Zeta-Jones character? I mean other than that she looked like Catherine Zeta-Jones? She was having an affair with a married man, she was scatter-brained, she wasn't particularly personable...
I see over and over again these movies that have bland looking guys (who do at least have some redeaming qualities) falling instantly madly head over heels in love with some amazingly beautiful woman of no substance whatsoever. We then see these men do amazing, kind, generous, sweet things for these women, swear their undying love and behave with such nobility... all for the pretty face (well, and a bod like Catherine Zeta-Jones, I'm no idiot, it ain't all about the face)
Is it any wonder that women are so confused right now? Why so many teenagers will do anything to make themselves beautiful and nothing to make themselves cultural and well rounded? All we have to do is be as gorgeous as Angelina Jolie and we get... Billy Bob Thornton? Is that really a fair trade?
o hon, I am with you. the bland male character is a great idea for the film industry b'c it highlights the fact that they have these unbelieveably (and I mean that word) gorgeous women.. the woman pay the big bucks to look like that.. and so they play it all up. That is why I think people like hilary swank should be in more movies. she plays non-traditional roles and is still beautiful but in her soul kind of way. she is in a new movie where she plays a boxer. I need to find out more, but kudos to her for not trying for the zeta-jones roles.
Well, now, don't forget, Angelina Jolie only had Billy Bob Thornton *until* she wanted a baby. He managed to have kids with women before and after their marriage, but God forbid she did anything that might change her body or divert her attention from him.
I feel wierd telling my three year old that she looks pretty because even though I tell her she is smart, funny, kind, etc..., I worry that the "pretty" thing is what's going to stick in her mind as important and I don't want to start her on that at home at such a young age. She'll get enough as she gets older.
Congratulations on your bonus! I can't wait to see what else turns up -- that Cascade couldn't have used it all up.
I just saw that movie, too, and wondered what her part in the movie really was. Maybe another star to draw a crowd--give the guys something to look at?
At any rate, what sweater are you going to make with the cascade 220?
I think part of it comes down to who are the guys writing the scripts... probably good, yet bland dudes... and their dream girl is (enter any beautiful Hollywood actress)... they see themselves in the bland male lead, so of course, the guy's going to get the hot chick.
Does that make sense? I think the caffeine's wearing off...
Anyways, woo hoo! for the bonus... bonuses are good. :)
It happens in real life too, unfortunately, not just the movies.
Bravo for saying what I was thinking! It made me angry to have United showing that film on the airplane (Eastbound in October, I think) knowing what a stereo-typical character Zeta-Jones was playing. Nothing like continuing to portray us all as wife-stealing bimbos. It's really sad when I meet people and they get to know me as a person...they can't believe I'm a flight attendant because it doesn't fit their thoughts on what one of us should be. Sad. There simply isn't a one-size-fits-all for each group of people out there. And you're right, these poor young women have so many mixed messages coming at them. Congrats again on the bonus, I can't wait to see those sweaters! :)
